Prior to joining McNichol, Byrne & Matlawski, P.C., Jim was an Assistant District Attorney and certified legal intern with the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office for over 10 years.
For 6 years, Jim was cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for Eastern District of Pennsylvania to litigate federal firearms cases under Project Safe Neighborhoods and drug distribution conspiracy cases under special assignment with the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
In his last two years as an Assistant District Attorney, Jim created the District Attorney’s Office Violent Offender Unit, developed the guidelines and strategy for the Unit’s mission, and acted as the Unit Chief, with the approval of former District Attorney and now Common Pleas Judge G. Michael Green.
Jim has litigated jury trials ranging from state first degree murder cases to a federal long term, complex, historical drug trafficking conspiracy case. In the federal drug trafficking conspiracy case, Jim worked for approximately five years as member of a federal, state and local task force prosecution team.
As Assistant District Attorney, Jim provided legal guidance to detectives in murder investigations which were caused by drug distribution and gang related firearm violence.
Jim’s other past responsibilities with the District Attorney’s Office included being a Trial Team Leader/Supervisor, a Safe School Liaison, a member of the Legal Intern Hiring Committee, a Public Information Officer, and the supervisor of the Extradition Unit.
